Does our society feature any forms of “Newspeak”? Is our language today more advanced or more simplified than in the past?
Yes our society does feature forms of Newspeak. Our language has been simplified over the years. We’ve stopped using a lot of the words people used to use in normal conversation.
How does technology advance the Party’s agenda in 1984?
Technology advances the party’s agenda. It advances it by watching them with telescreens, making them not have any freedoms. They also use the telescreens to tell them lies about the world they live in, but it’s given to them as “news”.
Are we "Proles" or "Party Members"?
We are proles, because we make up a majority of the population, we’re the working class, and we get easily distracted by silly things.
When people are stripped of their ability to express a thought, do they lose the ability to formulate one?
They lose the ability to find the words to express their thoughts, but they don’t lose the ability to feel what they really feel about a situation.
Is technology today more or less advanced than it is in the book? Is this a good or a bad thing?
Technology is more advanced, and that’s a good thing and a bad thing. It’s good because we have the ability to interact with everybody whenever we want, and it makes it easier to come into contact with people. It’s a bad thing though, because it distracts us from the real world, and real problems.
