1. Are you willing to give up your privacy if constant government surveillance means living in a safer country? Does America seem to be willing to give up their privacy? Why?
I am willing to give up my privacy if that means I will be living in a safer country - that is if they stick to their word. I wouldn't be necessarily worried if the government was watching me because technically you shouldn't be doing anything wrong. For example, the telescreens used in the book would be beneficial in the real world to monitor the citizens and catch the people going against the law. America does not seem willing to give up their privacy, because they don't trust them and would probably believe they are going to do something opposite than what they present.
7. Are we "Proles" or "Party Members"?
I think we are "Proles". As described in the book as the working middle class, there are more of them in our society as well, than the "Party Members", or otherwise known as the rich. I believe this because just like the Proles, our working middle class is always affected by the other classes.
12. “Who controls the past controls the future; who controls the present controls the past.” What does this quote mean? Do you agree with it?
This quote means that the people in the past set up the future for the present people. I do agree with this because if we are used to the same old habits and are influenced by the same things, we will keep on doing what we've been taught until something changes. If we change for the good in the present, we will set ourselves up for success and things will be better in the future.
9. When people are stripped of their ability to express a thought, do they lose the ability to formulate one?
Yes. If the Party catches you thinking about something that goes against them, they will have a major problem with you. Basically in this society, you can't have your own thoughts and you grow up thinking that the Party is the God.
4. Is technology today more or less advanced than it is in the book? Is this a good or a bad thing?
The technology today is less advanced than it is in the book. This is a good thing because when people get too much control, it gets to their heads and out of hand. Eventually, our technology will get to the same advance level as the book and the world will become a scary place to live in at that point.
