1. Are you willing to give up your privacy if constant government surveillance means living in a safer country? Does America seem to be willing to give up their privacy? Why?
Personally I could not give up my privacy. However most Americans will by posting everything on social media for anyone who can easily access it. Americans say they value privacy but don't always monitor how much private information they give out.
3. How does technology advance the Party’s agenda in 1984?
Technology advances the Party's agenda because it allows for people to be spied on and shows the Party all who feel negatively towards it. The telescrenes force the people to act how the party wants because it spies on people and everybody knows it. The helicopters also adds to the Party's agenda because they are able to get a view for places people can hide from the telescreen.
4. Is technology today more or less advanced than it is in the book? Is this a good or a bad thing?
Technology is more advanced now than in the book. It is both a good and a bad thing. The good is the advanced medical technology that allows for better medical treatment and diagnosis. The bad is while our weaponry gets better others want to challenge it, to make something that is better.
10. Does our society feature any forms of “Newspeak”? Is our language today more advanced or more simplified than in the past?
Our society does feature forms of Newspeak. Our language today is more simplified than that of the past only we call in slang instead of newspeak, where slang is actually "slang" of short english. Other examples are lol, omg, brb, ect.
11. What does Winston mean by, “Orthodoxy is unconsciousness?” (Orwell 49)
By saying "Orthodoxy is Unconsciousness," Winston is saying that to be what is socially normal for Oceania is to be a mindless zombie that physically and mentally can not think for oneself. For example he says his wife was the most orthodox person there was and also compared her to a mindless human incapable of thought.
