#4- Is technology today more or less advanced than it is in the book? Is this a good or a bad thing? More advanced, seeing as if they did have the technology we do they'd have more information about things and wouldn't be as in the dark as they are now. For example, Winston's job is erasing history about Big Brother that undermines the idea that he's always right, however, with today's technology that wouldn't be possible. It's a good things because obviously if we didn't have access to such technology we wouldn't be able to know the truth about things and I think it's important to be able to know what your government is doing.
#7- Are we "Proles" or "Party Members"? I believe that we are Party Members. The Proles are very brainwashed into seeing the Party as nothing less than perfect and they are very distracted and can't see the wrongs that the Party is doing. There are obviously Party Members, Winston and Julia, who can see that the Party is corrupted and disagree with it, which we do (Well, this is an assumption as I cannot speak for anybody but myself). But, as it said in the books, the Proles are all distracted by porn and a bunch of other junk.
#11- What does Winston mean by, “Orthodoxy is unconsciousness?” What he means is that if you simply confirm with the beliefs (in this case, of the Party's) of what everybody else is, then you won't be able to grow and create your own thoughts and you'll basically be a mind slave to the norm. Like how the kids are all spies for the Party; they were born into the beliefs and believe that that's what's right without question.
#6- What is Winston’s job at the Ministry of Truth? How does he contribute to the Party’s causes? Why is this contradictory to who he is? Winston erases history to adhere to the idea that Big Brother is never wrong so that everybody trusts him. It contrasts to his personal beliefs because obviously he knows that he's corrupt and doesn't really trust him.
#8. What is the goal of Newspeak? Do you believe that this is an effective method of control? The goal is to eliminate words so therefore nobody can commit thoughtcrime. It's an effective method of control because if nobody speaks bad, or even know how, it'll be impossible to revolt against them, as everybody will only see them as good.
