4. Is technology today more or less advanced than it is in the book? Is this a good or a bad thing?
Technology today is almost advanced as it is in the book. Personally i think it’s more of a bad thing because the invasion of privacy is much easier. Although the advance in technology is also good for many other purposes like medical and educational reasons.
10. Does our society feature any forms of “Newspeak”? Is our language today more advanced or more simplified than in the past?.
Our society has forms of newspeak but it isn’t for the same reason as in 1984. The language today is probably more simple than the past because we have a lot of slang and abbreviations for texting and other things.
8. What is the goal of Newspeak? Do you believe that this is an effective method of control?
The goal of newspeak is to make talking bad about the government harder and essentially eliminate the freedom to even speak or think the way you would want to. I do think this is an effective method of control but you can’t make the older people forget or stop teaching there will always be a way to think for yourself.
5. How does technology allow people to violate other people’s freedoms? Is the loss of privacy partially self-imposed?
Technology allows people to harass people and can easily start rumors and misunderstandings. The loss of privacy is partially our own fault for posting personal information or sharing information with someone you don’t know or can’t trust.
12. “Who controls the past controls the future; who controls the present controls the past.” What does this quote mean? Do you agree with it?
Whatever happened in your past affects your future and whatever you decide to do with yourself in that moment becomes what you did in the past. I agree with this quote because it’s the obvious truth whatever we do creates our past and dictates our future.
