1. Are you willing to give up your privacy if constant government surveillance means living in a safer country? Does America seem to be willing to give up their privacy? Why?
No, I wouldn't wanna give up my privacy. I don't think America is willing to give up their privacy, but government does it anyways by checking phone calls, text messages, social media etc. A lot of people are also posting their "whole life" on social media and are practically giving up their privacy on purpose.
12. “Who controls the past controls the future; who controls the present controls the past.” What does this quote mean? Do you agree with it?
It means that if you know about the past, you'll be successful in the future because you know about the history and can learn from it. And if you did something in your past, you can control your present by teaching people about your past. Yes, I agree with it
8. What is the goal of Newspeak? Do you believe that this is an effective method of control?
The goal is to shorten all words. I don't think its effective in the real world, because it only effects your expression of words but I think that it is effective in 1984, because less words don't lead to unacceptable thoughts (Thoughtcrime) .
2. What are some of the ways that the government controls the people of Oceania? Is this level of government involvement okay if it means it serves a greater purpose?
They control them by watching every step (telescreen), there is no voting, citizen depend on the government, by using fear. No it is not okay
11. What does Winston mean by, “Orthodoxy is unconsciousness?” (Orwell 49)
It means that you follow the same boring routine in Orceana, because Big Brother has forced you to. However, Winston starts challenging those standards by meeting Julia and the young girl that follows him.
