1. Are you willing to give up your privacy if constant government surveillance means living in a safer country? Does America seem to be willing to give up their privacy? Why?
In my opinion I am not willing to give up my privacy even if it means the government can protect me more because I would not want someone knowing what I’m doing 24/7. America seems to be giving up their privacy because people who post everything about them or what happens to them on social media are just getting rid of the privacy they have.
2. What are some of the ways that the government controls the people of Oceania? Is this level of government involvement okay if it means it serves a greater purpose?
The government controls the people of Oceania by having citizens keep telescreens in their home, they have to keep in on and never shut it off and the telescreen has people watching you through the telescreen. I don’t this this level of involvement is ok because in the movie Winston has to hide in the corner away from the telescreen to write in a journal because he knows if the government sees him writing they would want to know what he is writing.
4. Is technology today more or less advanced than it is in the book? Is this a good or a bad thing?
Technology would be more advanced in the book because in today we don’t have a telescreen that can watch us 24/7 and control your life.
5. How does technology allow people to violate other people’s freedoms? Is the loss of privacy partially self-imposed?
Technology allows people to go on social media and look at what people post, but the people who post it are just “giving away” their privacy therefore no one is losing privacy.
12. “Who controls the past controls the future; who controls the present controls the past.” What does this quote mean? Do you agree with it?
To me this quote means the people from the past can decide their future and the people in the present can decide what their past is. I agree because this is sayin you decide your life.
