(Question #1) Are you willing to give up your privacy if constant government surveillance means living in a safer country? Does America seem to be willing to give up their privacy? Why?
1. I would not give up my privacy to have the ability to live in a country that is more safe. I would rather live in a less safe country and still be able to have my own personal life. I do not think America is willing to give up our privacy because there are so many people that would rebel against the idea.
(Question #2) What are some of the ways that the government controls the people of Oceania? Is this level of government involvement okay if it means it serves a greater purpose?
2. The government controls the people of Oceania by tracking every move they make and every thing they think and say with telescreens. If they commit a crime they will be vaporized. I do not think this type of government is right in any way.
(Question #4) Is technology today more or less advanced than it is in the book? Is this a good or a bad thing?
3. I think that our technology is more advanced than theirs was in the book Nineteen Eighty-four. It can be good in some ways and bad in others. If we develop too much technology it will become very hazardous. But also is it good for medications, transportation and other important qualities.
(Question #5) How does technology allow people to violate other people’s freedoms? Is the loss of privacy partially self-imposed?
4. Having technology gives people the ability to constantly post about their personal life but that is their own choice. So yes, I think that having a lack of privacy is partially self-imposed.
(Question #9) When people are stripped of their ability to express a thought, do they lose the ability to formulate one?
5. Yes, if someone is born into not being able to express themselves and have an their own ego/personality they will not have the knowledge to be able to form one. In books like Nineteen Eighty-four and Anthem, the people of the society are not able to express themselves freely because they simply don’t know how to. They still might be able to have some thought towards themselves but nothing like what we have nowadays.
