1. Are you willing to give up your privacy if constant government surveillance means living in a safer country? Does America seem to be willing to give up their privacy? Why?
I think that it depends on how much privacy is being given up to the government. I dont think America would be willing to give up that much freedom because we like to know that we can do things in private and not always have someone watching.
2. What are some of the ways that the government controls the people of Oceania? Is this level of government involvement okay if it means it serves a greater purpose?
They change the past and are always monitoring them. Even their thoughts. I think that the level of government involvement is too much because there is no privacy and they know like everything.
3. Is technology today more or less advanced than it is in the book? Is this a good or a bad thing?
I think that today the technology is the same but i think that it is just used to do worse things then technology is used for now. I think it is a good thing because privacy still exists right now.
4. What is the goal of Newspeak? Do you believe that this is an effective method of control?
I think that newspeak is their method of destroying any words that could cause rebellion or make anyone think about the real past. I think that it would be a very effective way to control because nothing can happen if the words arent there to describe things.
5. “Who controls the past controls the future; who controls the present controls the past.” What does this quote mean? Do you agree with it?
It means that things in the past can affect the future and the present can change the past with a little manipulation . I agree because if you control the present you cannot be stopped from controlling the past or future.
